Breakdown is Kentucky’s very first official bike packing route that will begin in Breaks Interstate Park, zip across the spine of Pine Mountain following trails, gravel sections, single lanes pavement, and climbing through some of the most beautiful country you’ll ever see. For miles you’ll cover portions of the Little Shepherd’s Trail which is absolutely stunning. Taking several back country roads this route eventually leads you to the War Daddy race loop which is a handful all in itself. After knocking out some very difficult days be sure to stop by the historic Wendover Bed and Breakfast for a hot shower, great country style meals, and some much needed rest! Following this portion of the route you’ll hit some old coal mining areas where you probably witness an abundance of wildlife roaming around the ruins of no longer worked mining sites. This route will cover some amazing ground that is sure to be an eye opener to many when they see the potential eastern Kentucky has to offer the cycling community. Be prepared to possibly see elk, black bear, whitetail deer, wild turkey, and heck maybe even Sasquatch!
